How to Set Yourself Apart with Work-Based Learning on Your College Application!


As the idea of applying for college is lingering the hallways of high school, your are preparing ways to set yourself apart to get into your dream school.

You joined all the clubs, your participated in just the right sports, and you even balanced a few Advanced Placement classes to compete the right mixture of what would be call a "Well-rounded" student. You've even met the requirements for graduation during your junior year ,and you are thinking about adding another Art, Physical Education, or maybe weight training so you will have motivation to get that spring break body.

but wait you missed class....

Work-Based Learning!

Work-based learning can be used to set yourself apart on a college application easily.

Think about it....

  • Good for the resume

  • Develop Employability skills

  • Develop Career-related skills

  • Get experience in a field that relates to your career-interest

  • Network with businesses

  • Gain a mentors in your related career-interest.

Okay great! I get this ,but how will it help me on a college application.

According to College Board, colleges are looking for qualities such as leadership, willingness to take risk, initiative, a sense of responsibility, special talents and abilities.

By obtaining a internship during school, you are building these skills as well as experience towards your career-field which is putting you ahead of the competition. This opportunity can count towards clinical hours or even allow you put those engineering class skills to practice.

This will show colleges that you are taking initiative in your career goals.

and if you do not know what you want to do quite yet, this is a great opportunity to land a job to develop key employability skills for future internship applications in college.
